eau de toilet

I've suddenly become very aware (almost to the point of self consciousness) about the amount of toilet paper I use. It all started a few months ago when Ashley and I were at the grocery store and I was about to buy one of those industrial sized packages of TP. We were going to be moving out of our place soon and she said something to the effect of "That is an INSANE amount of toilet paper. It would take me a year to go through that. You're never going to finish it before we move. What...are you going to just pack it up with all of your stuff?"

I went ahead and bought the megaload, thinking it was a reasonable amount for my remaining time at our house. And I was right...I think I used it all...down to the last roll. Now I'm staying at my friend Alice's house and I've been sharing her store of TP until we run out, at which time I'll restock. Her bathroom is downstairs, so I've been grabbing 2 rolls at a time so I've got a spare in my bathroom. This has also made me super aware of the amount of toilet paper I'm going through because I feel like I'm constantly restocking. I never thought I was an overconsumer of toilet paper. But, perhaps I'm wrong.

So...I'm putting it out to the masses: How much toilet paper do you use? How quickly do you go through a roll? Do you use a particular number of squares for each wipe? Or with a flick of the wrist do you just let it roll? Feel free to post your comments anonymously if you're uneasy with potty talk. Members of the PC, I'd especially appreciate your feedback.

that is sooo much freakin' toilet paper! Scott and I go through maybe a roll a week, if that, i think. And no, I don't feel like I'm skimping, at all but to each their own. Now I'm going to keep track so I can retract this statment if I'm wrong.

Im with you Renee, I am a large consumer of tp. I was thinking this same thing not long ago. I think I will choose to blame our over abundant use of tp on Niles...its just easy. I will have to start keeping track. I am so excited to see you in a couple weeks!

I love that you posted about this. I like one ply because it lasts longer. I use the same amount no matter if it is one or two ply.

I shoot for <12 two-ply sheets per... trip. Sometimes you get that miraculous... trip... that only takes 3. (2 sheets at first, then one more because you don't believe it)

What an awesome frickin' post. Put up a poll!!

Back at the end of September when I moved to my new apartment I bought a 36 pack of toilet paper from Costco. My roommate bought another 8 pack. We're down to 6 rolls now.

If you do the math it works out to about 1.58 rolls per week. Assuming that all 3 of us use the same amount that's about .52 rolls per person per week. With 425 sheets per roll that works out to 224.3 sheets per person per week. That can't be right can it? Oh wait! I got sick twice during that time too and used quite a few sheets as tissues. That makes me feel better. That just seemed like an insane amount of TP.

Haha, are you serious? Where did you get that pic? Renee you never cease to make me laugh. I really don't know how much I use, I know I'm going to be thinking about it now. I'll have to let you know. :)

I'd like to point out that most comments from the guys don't count as much for 2 reasons. 1) They only have to wipe after going #2, and 2) they don't have a "that time of the month." So you should really only should gauge yourself against other women. I have no idea how much we go through.

Love the post! Keep these interesting thoughts coming!

The most self-conscious I've been about this was when I lived in the dorms my freshman year. The roller was squeaky and I'd get so embarrassed thinking that people could hear it in their rooms or the common area. I don't like other people to know how much I'm using at the exact moment that I'm using it.
